Great Lakes Lifeways Institute (GLLI) focuses efforts to preserve, promote and perpetuate regional cultural traditions, especially TEK (Traditional Environmental Knowledge) specific to the Great Lakes Region. In our work, we are dedicated to supporting and contributing to vibrant and sustainable, culturally rooted initiatives of Tribal Nations and Communities as well as partnering and collaborating with other regional organizations and government entities to provide educational materials, exhibits, events and programming. In 2024, GLLI partnered with over a dozen Tribal Nations in our region on a wide range of culturally rooted projects and programs. We also invested significant efforts and resources in TEK based food sovereignty and sustainability projects primarily on Madeline Island, Wisconsin and in the Twin Cities, Minnesota.
