OVER THE YEAR A TOTAL OF 39 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM THE LOCAL COMMUNITY WILL SERVE ON CREWS THAT WILL WORK ON A VARIETY OF PROJECTS IN AND AROUND THE REFUGE THAT WILL INCLUDE, HABITAT RESTORATION, TRAIL MAINTENANCE, BEAUTIFICATION, GARDENING, AND CARPENTRY. PROJECTS WILL BE COMPLETED UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF THE USFSW JOHN HEINZ TEAM AND WILL IMPROVE THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE AT JOHN HEINZ NWR AT TINICUM AND IN GREEN SPACES IN THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. INTEGRATED INTO THE PROGRAM WILL BE LESSONS AND FIELD TRIPS. MOBILIZEGREEN WILL WORK WITH PATUXENT NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE STAFF TO DEVELOP AND RUN A SUMMER CONSERVATION SERVICE PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH STARTING IN JUNE 2023. MOBILIZEGREEN WILL RECRUIT A CREW LEADER, AND 4 CREW MEMBERS, WHO WILL WORK ON AN 8-WEEK SUMMER CREW AT PATUXENT. THE CREW WILL WORK ON A VARIETY OF PROJECTS AT THE REFUGE THAT WILL INCLUDE: HABITAT RESTORATION THROUGH FENCE REMOVAL, BEAUTIFICATION, GARDENING, PAINTING AND LITE CARPENTRY. PROJECTS WILL BE COMPLETED UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF THE USFWS PATUXENT TEAM AND WILL IMPROVE BOTH WILDLIFE HABITAT AND THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE AT THE REFUGE. INTEGRATED INTO THE PROGRAM WILL BE ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION LESSONS.
