SUPPORTING AND EMPOWERING VERMONT FAMILIES - VERMONT FAMILY NETWORK (VFN) WILL IMPLEMENT THE SUPPORTING AND EMPOWERING VERMONT FAMILIES PROJECT TO PROVIDE STATEWIDE SUPPORT TO FAMILY MEMBERS AND PRIMARY CAREGIVERS RAISING CHILDREN, YOUTH, AND YOUNG ADULTS WITH SERIOUS EMOTIONAL DISTURBANCE OR CO-OCCURRING DISORDERS. THE PROJECT WILL STRENGTHEN FAMILIES' KNOWLEDGE OF MENTAL HEALTH AND THEIR ABILITY TO NAVIGATE VERMONT'S MENTAL HEALTH AND RELATED SERVICE SYSTEMS THROUGH FAMILY ADVOCACY, INDIVIDUALIZED SUPPORT, LEADERSHIP COACHING, TRAINING, EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS, AND PARTNERSHIPS. VFN WILL PROVIDE INDIVIDUALIZED SUPPORT THROUGH 500 CONTACTS TO PARENTS NAVIGATING MENTAL HEALTH AND RELATED SYSTEMS AND PROVIDE LEADERSHIP COACHING TO PREPARE FAMILY MEMBERS TO SERVE ON WORKGROUPS, COUNCILS, AND COMMITTEES. THE PROJECT WILL CREATE TWO TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES AND TWO PUBLICATIONS ON MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS, SYSTEMS NAVIGATION, FAMILY RIGHTS UNDER FEDERAL LAW, AND FAMILY-DRIVEN, YOUTH-GUIDED CARE. VFN WILL ALSO WORK WITH PARTNERS TO IDENTIFY TWO OPPORTUNITIES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH LIVED EXPERIENCE TO INFORM SYSTEMS CHANGE AND PARTNER WITH STATE EDUCATION, MENTAL HEALTH, AND DEVELOPMENTAL AGENCIES TO ENCOURAGE SCREENING AND EARLY IDENTIFICATION OF SERIOUS EMOTIONAL DISTURBANCE OR CO-OCCURRING DISORDERS IN SCHOOLS.
