SIX USFWS INTERNS, AGES 18-30 (UP TO 35 FOR VETERANS), WILL BE INTRODUCED TO NATURAL RESOURCE CAREERS THROUGH A 38-WEEK PAID FELLOWSHIPS (UP TO 40 HOURS PER WEEK) INVOLVING HANDS-ON WORK WITH, AND TRAINING BY NATURAL RESOURCE PROFESSIONALS EMPLOYED BY THE USFWS STAFF AT TIER 3 URBAN REFUGES. 2. THE INTERNS WILL CONTINUE VARIOUS RESEARCH, COMMUNICATIONS AND OUTREACH ACTIVITIES THROUGH HIS/HER WORK ASSIGNMENT AT USFWS AND THROUGH INFORMAL AND/OR FORMAL TRAINING SESSIONS PROVIDED BY USFWS EMPLOYEES. 3. IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THESE AIMS, THE PROJECT WILL: (1.1) RECRUIT NINE HISPANIC ROLE MODEL SCIENTISTS YEARLY TO PROVIDE TALKS TO PARENTS AND YOUTH. (1.2) COACH THESE SCIENTISTS TO OFFER EXHILARATING, ENGAGING, AND INFORMATIVE TALKS. (1.3) OFFER MONTHLY TALKS EACH SCHOOL YEAR DURING PROGRAM YEARS 1-4. PROJECT OBJECTIVES THROUGH THIS PROJECT: 1. SIX USFWS INTERNS, AGES 18-30 (UP TO 35 FOR VETERANS), WILL BE INTRODUCED TO NATURAL RESOURCE CAREERS THROUGH A 38-WEEK PAID FELLOWSHIPS (UP TO 40 HOURS PER WEEK) INVOLVING HANDS-ON WORK WITH, AND TRAINING BY NATURAL RESOURCE PROFESSIONALS EMPLOYED BY THE USFWS STAFF AT TIER 3 URBAN REFUGES. 2. THE INTERNS WILL CONTINUE VARIOUS RESEARCH, COMMUNICATIONS AND OUTREACH ACTIVITIES THROUGH HIS/HER WORK ASSIGNMENT AT USFWS AND THROUGH INFORMAL AND/OR FORMAL TRAINING SESSIONS PROVIDED BY USFWS EMPLOYEES. 3. HISPANIC ACCESS FOUNDATION'S VISION FOR THEIR MANO PROJECT INITIATIVE IS TO BUILD A STRONG NUMBER OF INSPIRED, SKILLED, CULTURALLY, ETHINICALLY, AND ECONOMICALLY DIVERSE YOUNG PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED NATURAL RESOURCE INTERNSHIPS WITH THE U.S. FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE. THESE INTERNSHIPS COULD LEAD TO A POTENTIAL CAREER WITH THE SERVICE, RESULTING IN A DIVERSE WORKFORCE OF CONSERVATIONISTS THAT IS TRULY REFLECTIVE OF THE COMMUNITY AND OVERALL POPULATION.OUR OBJECTIVE FOR THIS PROGRAM ALIGNS WITH THE GOVERNMENT-WIDE STRATEGIC PLAN TO ADVANCE DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION, AND ACCESSIBILITY DEIA IN THE FEDERAL WORKFORCE.
