THE ASTHMA AND ALLERGY FOUNDATION OF AMERICA, ST. LOUIS CHAPTER SERVES THOSE AFFECTED BY ASTHMA AND ALLERGIES THROUGH EDUCATION, SUPPORT AND RESOURCES. THE PROPOSED VISTA PROJECT ALIGNS WITH THE HEALTHY FUTURES FOCUS AREA. THE VISTA PROJECT WILL SEEK TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF AAFA-STL PROGRAMS SUCH AS THE SCHOOL NURSE RESCUE PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDES EQUIPMENT AND TRAINING TO QUALIFIED SCHOOL; BREATH, WHICH PROVIDES PRESCRIPTION AND EQUIPMENT ASSISTANCE TO LOW INCOME FAMILIES WITH A CHILD DIAGNOSED WITH ASTHMA AND ALLERGIES; AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND EDUCATION, WHICH PROVIDES THE ACCESS TO RESOURCES AND ACCREDITED TRAININGS TO HELP CAREGIVERS BETTER UNDERSTAND WHAT IS NEEDED TO HELP CHILDREN BETTER MANAGE THEIR CHRONIC DISEASE. AAFA-STL EXPECTS TO ENROLL 25 SCHOOLS WITHIN ST. CLAIR AND MADISON COUNTIES IN YEAR 1, AND THROUGH THEM REFERRALS FOR 25 INDIVIDUALS TO RECEIVE ASTHMA ASSISTANCE THROUGH THE BREATH PROGRAM. TWO (2) VISTA MEMBERS WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE GOALS OF THE PROJECT BY PERFORMING ACTIVITIES SUCH AS OUTREACH TO SCHOOL NURSES, SCHEDULING TRAININGS/EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES WITH SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS, AND HELPING CREATE A DATABASE AND COMMUNICATION PLAN TO REACH POTENTIAL CORPORATE AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO HELP BUILD FINANCIAL CAPACITY OVER THE COURSE OF 12 MONTHS.
