DAKOTA RURAL ACTION WILL STRENGTHEN THE SOUTH DAKOTA LOCAL FOOD COALITION SDLFC AND FOSTER THRIVING LOCAL FOOD ECONOMIES ACROSS THE STATE. THIS PROJECT WILL RESULT IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF AN INTERACTIVE ONLINE MAPPING TOOL TO VISUALLY REPRESENT THE NETWORK OF STAKEHOLDERS INCLUDING FARMERS RANCHERS PROCESSORS AND OTHER FOOD SYSTEM PARTICIPANTS. DAKOTA RURAL ACTION WILL ORGANIZE SDLFC STAKEHOLDERS SOLIDIFYING THE COALITIONS ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE AND DEVELOPING A MULTIYEAR STRATEGIC PLAN SUPPORTED BY A FOOD SYSTEMS PLANNER. RESEARCH WILL BE CONDUCTED TO CHARACTERIZE CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN THE REGIONAL FOOD SYSTEM ENABLING THE SDLFC TO PRIORITIZE KEY ACTION ITEMS. THE ANTICIPATED OUTCOME IS AMPLIFYING THE NEEDS OF LOCAL FOOD PRODUCERS AND PROMOTING THE VIABILITY AND RESILIENCE OF RURAL FOODBASED AGRARIAN COMMUNITIES. THE BENEFICIARIES OF THIS PROJECT INCLUDE ALL STAKEHOLDERS INVOLVED IN SOUTH DAKOTAS LOCAL FOOD SYSTEM FROM THOSE PRODUCING AGRICULTURAL GOODS TO THOSE WHO PROCESS AND DISTRIBUTE THEM SUPPORTING THE LONGTERM SUSTAINABILITY OF REGIONAL FOOD ECONOMIES.
