DBA COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER OF THE NEW RIVER VALLEY (CHCNRV) PROJECT TYPE: CONSTRUCTION PROJECT (WITHOUT EQUIPMENT) PROJECT NAME: INITIAL CONSTRUCTION COSTS FOR A NEW HEALTH CENTER FACILITY SERVING THE NEW RIVER VALLEY REGION OF VIRGINIA TOTAL CDS PROJECT REQUEST: $1,250,000 THE COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER OF THE NEW RIVER VALLEY (CHCNRV) HAS BEEN AWARDED CONGRESSIONALLY DIRECTED SPENDING (CDS) TO ASSIST WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW HEALTH CENTER FACILITY IN CHRISTIANSBURG, VIRGINIA. CHCNRV WILL CONSTRUCT A NEW 2-STORY BUILDING ON AN EXISTING UNDEVELOPED SITE OWNED BY THE ORGANIZATION. THE NEW 28,900 SF BUILDING WILL PROVIDE A RECEPTION AREA, MEDICAL EXAMINATION ROOMS, PATIENT SERVICES AREAS, PROVIDER O?CES, DENTAL OPERATORIES, RESTROOMS, ADMINISTRATION OFFICES/WORK AREA, CONFERENCE ROOM/TRAINING ROOMS, HEALTHCARE SUPPORT FUNCTION AREAS, DEDICATED SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER SPACE, AND MECHANICAL SPACES. THE BUILDING WILL COMPLY WITH ALL ACCESSIBILITY REQUIREMENTS OF THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT AND LOCAL BUILDING CODES, AND WILL ASPIRE FOR LEED CERTIFICATION. THE RESULTING HEALTH CENTER WILL BE A LARGER, MORE MODERN, AND BETTER ORGANIZED FACILITY, WELL-SUITED TO DELIVER SERVICES TO THE PATIENT POPULATION, ESPECIALLY IN THE POST-COVID ERA. THE NEW BUILDING WILL REPLACE THE ORGANIZATION’S CURRENT CHRISTIANSBURG FACILITY (CIRCA 1940, 8,000 SF), WHICH IS OWNED BY MONTGOMERY COUNTY. THE CURRENT FACILITY IS OUTDATED AND MUCH TOO SMALL FOR THE BREADTH OF SERVICES AND NUMBER OF PATIENT VISITS NOW PROVIDED BY THE HEALTH CENTER. OUR HEALTH CENTER IS THE REGION’S PRIMARY SOURCE OF MEDICAL, DENTAL, AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CARE FOR LOW-INCOME, UNINSURED, AND MEDICAID-INSURED PERSONS—GROUPS WHO HAVE MANY BARRIERS TO HEALTH CARE AND FEW OPTIONS. IN 2023, THE HEALTH CENTER SERVED 5,835 UNDUPLICATED PATIENTS, AND PROVIDED THEM WITH 27,274 HEALTH CARE VISITS. THE NEW SITE WILL ALLOW THE O RGANIZATION TO SERVE AN ADDITIONAL 1,200 PATIENTS PER YEAR, GIVEN THE INCREASE IN NUMBER OF MEDICAL EXAM ROOMS (FROM 6 CURRENTLY TO 14 IN THE NEW FACILITY) AND DENTAL OPERATORIES (FROM 5 CURRENTLY TO 10 IN THE NEW FACILITY), AND A NEW DEDICATED BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SPACE. CONSISTENT WITH THE ORIGINAL CDS REQUEST SUBMITTED TO OUR SENATORS, CDS FUNDS WILL BE USED FOR INITIAL CONSTRUCTION COSTS IN THE CATEGORIES OF ARCHITECTURAL AND ENGINEERING FEES, SITE WORK, AND DEMOLITION AND REMOVAL.
