THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO MONITOR THREATENED SPECIES CANADA LYNX AND WOLVERINE DISTRIBUTION, ABUNDANCE, AND HABITAT USE IN THE SOUTHWESTERN CROWN OF THE CONTINENT (SW CROWN) ECOSYSTEM. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION SUCH AS GENETICS, REPRODUCTION, AND EXISTING THREATS WILL BE COLLECTED AND DOCUMENTED. FIELD CREWS WILL CONDUCT MONITORING SURVEYS DURING WINTER MONTHS TO COLLECT DATA ON THESE FOCAL SPECIES. METHODOLOGIES WILL INCLUDE SNOW TRACK SURVEYS AND BACKTRACKING OF FOCAL SPECIES TO COLLECT GENETIC MATERIAL, AS WELL AS FROM NON-INVASIVE BAIT STATIONS.

STAFF WILL ALSO WORK WITH PRIVATE LANDOWNERS WITHIN THE SWAN RIVER WATERSHED ON HABITAT CONSERVATION PROJECTS THAT BENEFIT GRIZZLY BEARS TRUMPETER SWANS BULL TROUT AND WESTSLOPE CUTTHROAT TROUT.
